Learning without boundaries

Further Education and Support for Young Adults with Complex Needs

Who We Are

Community College Initiative (CCi) is a specialist Further Education outreach college for 16- to 25-year-olds with complex needs in Essex and surrounding areas.

We are a leading provider of Further Education and Learning Support for young adults with complex needs and understand that every student is unique. We believe that education is a mechanism of transformation and change and CCi takes pride in supporting young people to feel valued, develop confidence and self-esteem, assisting in shaping their futures and accessing the wider world.

CCi achieves success through highly skilled, caring staff who place the students at the heart of everything we do.

Our Approach

Education at CCi is as unique as the students we support. Our programmes are individually tailored, considering each student's personal preferences, interests, and long-term goals.

Our philosophy, "Learning without boundaries," reflects our commitment to offering flexible and adaptive learning experiences. Courses are delivered across various settings, including students' homes, work placements, social and leisure activities, and in collaboration with other education providers and support services, when necessary. This approach ensures that learning is relevant, engaging, and connected to real-world experiences.

We offer a wide-ranging curriculum in a variety of subject areas that is personalised to each young person’s needs. Bespoke curricula are developed to engage students and reviewed and amended overtime. CCi tutors work closely with students to include their preferences, guiding students to set ambitious but achievable targets. All tutors have a wide breadth of experience working within special educational needs. Each student is supported by a learning support assistant (1:1 minimum) that is guided by the tutor to deliver planned learning activities.

CCi is committed to offering students a wide range of opportunities to explore their interests and develop new skills. Our programmes are dynamic and responsive, providing access to a variety of learning experiences. This can include examples such as; cooking, farming, computer programming to fishing, sports, crafts and horse riding.

Specialist Support and Guidance

CCi programmes go beyond traditional education by closely collaborating with healthcare professionals, therapists and caregivers to ensure students receive the support and guidance they need to thrive. This integrated approach enhances the learning experience and contributes to the overall well-being of our students.
