CCi Curriculum Intent Statement
Community College Initiative (CCi) supports young adults with complex needs to access specialist Further Education by delivering individually tailored and designed courses, incorporating professional support and guidance. We believe that education is a mechanism of transformation and change and CCi takes pride in supporting young people to feel valued, develop confidence and self-esteem, assisting in shaping their futures and accessing the wider world.
Learning
CCi provides flexible, student-centred learning outside the traditional academic calendar. Progress is tracked through an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) with targets based upon students needs. Bespoke programmes are focused upon individual interests to help develop transferable skills through English and Maths, together with personal, social and employability skills to help prepare for adulthood.
Assessment
Initial Assessment
Following interview and enrolment, students access appropriate assessment tasks to identify current levels. Each student is assessed holistically, making sure that sensory needs, social, emotional and mental health, alongside maths, English and IT skills are observed. Additionally, learning levels, support information, and planning details are sort from previous providers, family, and support services to ensure we create an effective individualised plan for each student.
At CCi we have five curriculum pathways,

- Lifelong Learning and Independence Pathway
- Learning for Life and Future Goals Pathway
- Readiness for Employment Pathway
- Supported Internship Pathway
Community College Initiative Pathways
After initial assessment a pathway is agreed upon and the assigned tutor will develop a bespoke curriculum focusing upon student interests and needs. Tutors provide students with the support they require to continue to learn transferable skills through English, Maths and ICT, together with personal and social skills development and enrichment programmes.
A CCi programme supports constant monitoring and planning to continually assess learning levels and progress and offer reviewed targets to stretch and challenge students throughout their range of learning opportunities. Progression is documented through Individual Learning Plans (ILP), with CCi Tutors providing regular opportunity for review meetings.
Independent Careers Advice is provided through partnership with the ‘SEND Careers Advice Service’.
