Community College Initiative (CCi) supports young adults with complex needs to access specialist Further Education by delivering individually tailored and designed courses, incorporating professional support and guidance. We believe that education is a mechanism of transformation and change and CCi takes pride in supporting young people to feel valued, develop confidence and self-esteem, assisting in shaping their futures and accessing the wider world.

CCi believes in learning without boundaries and has high aspirations for our students. However, we understand that every young person is an individual who may have had experiences that have made accessing education challenging. Therefore, CCi offers bespoke programmes tailored to each young person’s interests to help navigate those challenges.

Education at CCi is designed to identify and prompt meaningful skills management and development for supporting individuals’ pathways. We offer a wide-ranging curriculum in a variety of subject areas that is personalised to each young person’s needs. The bespoke curriculum can be adapted to engage students from their starting points, which can then be re-adapted as new targets are reached. CCi Tutors work closely with students to include personal choice and preferences, guiding students in setting ambitious but achievable targets. All tutors have a wide breadth of experience working within special educational needs. Each student is supported by a learning support assistant (1:1 minimum) that works in partnership with the tutor in delivering the planned activities and targets.

We appreciate that for some students a conventional college setting is not conducive to learning and engagement. Therefore, our programmes are delivered within a wide range of settings, from students’ homes, work placements, social activities, leisure-based settings and with additional education providers as required. We do have a base in Chelmsford that students can attend when they are ready to engage.
